Trevi Fountain was built between 1732 and 1762, the year of its inauguration, by Nicola Salvi and later by Pietro Bracci.
It is the largest and most famous of Rome's fountains, made of travertine and marble on the facade of Palazzo Poli.
The theme depicted is that of the sea, with a large rocky cliff dominating the entire lower part of the palace.
In the center here is a large niche bordered by columns and embellished by Pietro Bracci's statue of Oceanus.
The god is depicted on a shell-shaped chariot drawn by two winged horses, named “agitated horse” (left) and “placid horse” (right).
On either side of the central niche are two smaller niches, inside which are statues of Salubrity and Abundance, both made by Filippo della Valle.
Next to the main arch are two bas-relief panels depicting Agrippa at the moment of approving the construction of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct by Giovan Battista Grossi and the Virgin showing the soldiers the location of the water springs by Andrea Bergondi.
The fountain has numerous marble decorations depicting plant species such as caper plant, wild fig, mullein bush, prickly pear, ivy shoots, vine with grape clusters, colocasia, ciombolino, and evergreen plants.
